Dual citizenship permitted in Germany from June 27, 2024

On June 27, 2024, a new law will come into effect in Germany that will allow German citizens to acquire citizenship in another country without losing their German citizenship. Until now, it was necessary for German citizens to apply for and receive permission from the German authorities to retain their German citizenship before they could acquire citizenship in another country without losing their German citizenship. Despite the efforts made to apply for and obtain approval, the retention permit is usually only valid for 2 years.

We are happy to help clients apply for U.S. citizenship. If you have held a U.S. green card for 5 years and live in the U.S. for most of the year, please contact us for a consultation on applying for U.S. citizenship. You can reach us at +1 (941) 362-7100.
